Contestant Interview
Ramone Archie
We were contacted by Ramone Archie whose
family appeared on an episode of Louie Anderson's Family Feud in 2000.
We would like to thank Ramone for giving us an interview about his
experiences on the show.
1. Were you a fan of the previous runs of Family Feud with Richard Dawson
or Ray Combs? How much of a fan were you of the Louie Anderson version before
and after appearing on the show? |
 |
I was a big fan of the show when I was younger. My
family and I watched Richard Dawson all the time. I used to think about
being on the show and taking my four brothers and sisters with me. I
was about 7 or 8 when I started watching Dawson on the Feud. Even then
I always got the number one answer. I also enjoyed watching Ray Combs.
He was a great host and a funny guy. I actually met him also.
When I was in High School in Los Angeles for a fundraiser, some seniors
went to be in the audiance. I think they paid our school five dollars
a head. Well, at the end of the show, my friend and I went up on stage
with the winning family. I started dancing to the music and Ray told
everyone to stand back and watch me go. The funniest thing about it
was the winning family was white and of course I'm black. Now if you
could find that episode that would be special. I'm guessing you won't
though, but it was filmed in the spring of 1994. I'm wearing a green letterman
jacket, dancing my butt off during the closing credits. I've always
been a fan of Louie Anderson...he's great. I watched his show at least
twice a week. I became a even bigger fan after appearing on the show,
and i started watching it everyday. My episode actually aired about
4 or 5 times. |
2. Do you ever watch the current version of the show with Richard Karn? |
| No, I don't watch the version with Richard Karn. Although,
I did love him on Home Improvement. I was just kinda dissapointed when Louie
left; he was great. I have watched it a few times, but it's hard to
catch with my schedule and all. I do watch some of the Richard Dawson
shows on GSN. |
 |
| 3. What are/were your favorite game shows? |
 |
My favorite game show are of course Family Feud, Jeopardy,
The Price is Right, Who Wants to be a Millionaire, and Lingo. |
| 4. Whose idea in your family was it to go on
Family Feud? How were you chosen to be the head of the family on the game? |
| It was definately my idea to go on the Family Feud. I
was actually in college at the time here in Texas and my family lived in
California. I was going out there to take a test so I decided to call
the Family Feud to set up an audition for my family. It was basicly
known that I was going to be the head. I was the one who got everything
together. It's funny, we arrived late to the audition and they weren't
going to let us go in. I had to sweet talk our way passed the security
guard, passed the intern, and straight to Leslie Aqua (forgot the rest of
her name). She told us "You better be good." So, they had nothing
to do with who was the head. My family chose me. |
 |
| 5. What was the auditioning process for the
show like? |
 |
The auditioning process was fun. When my family arrived
I believe there were like 30-something families there to audition. We of
course were the last ones to go because we arrived last. They set up
a mock game with two families going at each other. There was a bell
in the middle and a camera recording the auditions. They asked us questions
from previous Family Fued episodes. I remember one quesion was something
like "what would you associate with an elephant?" Surprisingly, "Dumbo
ears" was not one of the answers. We impressed Leslie and the other
staff and she told us we were on the show on the spot. |
| 6. Did you get to meet Louie any other time
other than during the show? What kind of person is he when the camera is
off? What about the Feud staff? |
| Actually, it's pretty funny. I did meet Louie prior
to the show. I used to work at a movie theater in Los Angeles when
i was in college and he would come in every other Wednesday night to watch
a movie. Louie was great when the camera was off. My brother
was only 13 at the time and during the commercial breaks he would come over
and see how he was handling the situation. He talked to my mom and
really made us feel special. The staff was great. Leslie was great
and they were really pulling for us. I have an interesting story to
go with that. When we arrived for the filming of the show they had already
told us that it still wasn't guraranteed that we would get on. Our chances
were really cut, because I could only make it for one day that weekend, not
the whole weekend as they required. So I flew to California not knowing if
I was even going to be able to get on the show. After we sat around and they
briefed us on the proccess and everything my family was the first family
chosen to be on the show. Leslie told us that we need to "set the tone" and
show the rest of the families how it's done. |
 |
| 7. Are there any other game shows you'd like
to audition for? |
 |
I would like to go on Who Wants to be a Millionaire or
maybe The Price is Right. I went to The Price is Right once, but was
not chosen. |
| 8. Did you do any preparation for the show
in advance? |
| For preparation, I basically watched every episode of the
Family Feud that I could and answered all the questions. I've always
been good at getting the number one answer. I told my family to do the same. |
 |
| 9. If you had a friend, or even someone you
didn't know, to ask how you should prepare or perform in the audition process,
what would you tell them? |
 |
BE ENTHUSIASTIC AND ENERGETIC. That is the key to getting
on the show. First they want to see a close family unit that works
well together. My family actually surprised me they were very energetic and
had lots of personality during the tryouts. Like I told you before we were
late to the auditons, so when it finally became out turn Leslie questioned
me about it. I told her this hilarious story about tornados and stuff and
she just ate it up. I joked around with her the whole time and she just fell
in love with my family. They liked us so much that about a month ago her
assistant called me and asked if we were available for a new game show on
nickalodeon called family something. I couldn't but they remembered us four
years later. That's impressive. |
| 10. How did you prepare for fast money behind
stage waiting for your turn to play? |
| This is another interesting story. When i was back stage,
of course i went second, Leslie bombarded me with fast money questions from
previous episodes. And I did not get one right. She kept telling me "you
have to be faster", "you're too slow", and I was like man, I'm about to choke.
But, when I got on stage it was on and the questions just flowed.
People ask me about the questions that were asked all the time, and I always
tell them, I won $10,000 saying "Dick" on national television. |
 |
| 11. How did you feel when you won the
$10,000? |
 |
Winning the money was a great feeling. But winning was
an even greater feeling. The money came and went, but you always have
thast win. The whole experience was actually the best thing about it. |
| 12. So, what's in your future and what have
you accomplished since being on Family Feud? |
| Well, right now I'm a coach for one of the top high school
football teams in the nation. We actually played on ESPN2 last Thursday night
as I made my second national televison appearance. I graduated from
college and have 3 children 2 boys and a girl. One of the boys and the girl
are twins. |
